Art competition for schools

Working in partnership with the National Galleries of Scotland, the programme encourages thousands of Nursery to S3 children all over the country to get arty and embrace their inner Van Goghs!

By allowing children to express themselves creatively we aim to encourage their freedom of expression and instil in them a passion for art.

Over 7,000 children took part in the Tesco Bank Art Competition for Schools annually, enjoying the opportunity to get creative in the classroom and to let their imaginations and artistic flair loose. The standard of work was extremely high and so it was fitting to have the final prize-giving event at Edinburgh’s National Galleries of Scotland. The 53 winning children from across Scotland attended the special prize-giving ceremony to collect their prizes.

In addition, 12 schools are awarded with artist-lead workshops and 20 schools with grants for art materials to enable participation in future years and widen access to the Competition.

To help make winning the competition even more special we surprised Issac Thomson, one of our winning artists, by bring his artwork to life.

To see what it means to the children who take part, their families and school we followed Annabel Wilson from Moniaive Primary, winner of the ‘Fabulous Food’ category (P1-3), on her journey to the awards.

More information about the competition can be found on the National Galleries of Scotland website.
