Tesco Bank’s ‘in the pink’ as it supports Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life

Yesterday (17 April), Tesco Bank turned pink in support of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. The activity took place at Tesco Bank’s offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle, with the building spaces transformed with Race for Life branding, turning the usual office spaces positively pink.

As part of this activity, Tesco Bank welcomed Ruth Davidson MSP, Leader of the Scottish Conservatives, to its Edinburgh office and Maureen Watt MSP, Minister for Mental Health, to its Glasgow office to switch on special pink lighting and turn the buildings pink.

Commenting on Tesco Bank turning pink to support Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life:

Ruth Davidson MSP, Leader of the Scottish Conservatives, said:

“Thanks to the research, dedication and fundraising of Cancer Research UK, more and more people are winning their battle against cancer.

“The Race for Life is key to this progress. Not only does it raise millions of pounds for life-saving research but it enables people up and down the country to do their bit in the fight against the disease.

“It’s great to see Tesco throwing its weight behind the Race for Life and I’m pleased to help launch Tesco Bank Turns Pink.”

Maureen Watt MSP, Minister for Mental Health, said:

“I would like to give my thanks to all those at Tesco who have taken part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life events, helping to raise a staggering £40 million over the last 17 years.

“Together we can all help to make significant steps in improving cancer outcomes. It is encouraging to note that we have seen cancer mortality rates fall by 11% over the past ten years but there is much more we can do. This is why the Scottish Government is investing £100 million through the Cancer Strategy, which will improve the prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, survival and aftercare of all those affected by cancer.”

Iain Clink, Interim Chief Executive, Tesco Bank said,

“At Tesco we are incredibly proud to support Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, as we know that cancer touches the lives of so many of our customers and colleagues. Tesco Bank Turns Pink is our way of helping to raise awareness of Cancer Research UK’s incredible work and the different ways in which people can get involved and show their support.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy, Half Marathon and Hiking events, which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding crucial research.

Lisa Adams, Cancer Research UK spokesperson for Scotland, said:

“We’d like to thank Shona Robison, Ruth Davidson and Tesco Bank for their support and it was great to see so many colleagues get involved in the Tesco Bank Turns Pink event. Money raised through Race for Life is helping to drive research to help beat over 200 types of cancer - that’s why every person who shows their support can make a real difference in the fight against the disease.”

Cancer Research UK is calling on women and girls to stride out to beat cancer sooner with Scotland’s first Race for Life 5K and 10K events of the year in Stirling and South Queensferry on 13 May, followed by events across the country from Glasgow to Irvine, Falkirk to Fife. Race for Life Glasgow, Scotland’s biggest Race for Life event, is on Sunday 20 May at Glasgow Green.
