Tesco Bank Tour O The Borders hailed a success!
Sunday 3rd September saw thousands of cyclists take to the roads and streets of the Scottish Borders for the 2017 Tesco Bank Tour O The Borders.
The event saw over 2000 participants take on an 88km or 120km closed road route in sunny conditions. The crowds came out to support the riders and cheer them over the finish line before celebrating with them on Peebles’ Tweed Green in a weekend where cycling took center stage in the Borders.
Among the many taking part for the first time was British Gold medallist, Paralympic cyclist and Paratriathlete Karen Darke MBE. Speaking after the event Karen said: “I had a fantastic experience taking part in Tesco Bank Tour O The Borders – I’d heard so many wonderful things about the event from friends who have ridden the event over the years and I was pleased to find out they were all true. Riding on a closed road route made the cycling all the more enjoyable as you could truly take in the spectacular Scottish Borders scenery. I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t taken part, to get signed up for next year!”
Event Director, Neil Dalgleish of Hillside Outside, said: “It’s a privilege to welcome cycling visitors from all over the world for this event - we shared a fabulous day out in the beautiful bike country of the Scottish Borders. These roads have long been one of cycling’s secret top destinations, so we’re delighted to share some of the region’s delights with an event which is attracting superb reviews from so many participants. We’re very proud of it, let’s hope it goes from strength to strength to become an even greater asset for the whole area.”
Chris Newton, Community Investment Manager, Tesco Bank commented: “Our third touro has undoubtedly been the very best and thanks to everyone who contributed to a wonderful event. In what has been a tremendous weekend of cycling in the Scottish Borders we were delighted to see so many people coming out to support and cheer on the riders as they competed their challenge.”
