Tesco Bank Support the Disasters Emergency Committee Indonesia Tsunami Appeal

On 28 September, an earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, triggering a tsunami that reached 18 feet in height, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Tens of thousands of homes have been destroyed and entire communities decimated. More than 1,500 people have died and hundreds of thousands of survivors have been displaced, and are now in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

Following the launch of the Disasters Emergency Committee Appeal last week, we have donated ATM advertising space to the fundraising campaign, with the appeal featuring on over 3,000 Tesco Bank ATM’s, located at Tesco stores across the UK.

Working closely with DEC, the advert was deployed across the network in the last couple of days, increasing awareness of the Appeal, along with promoting two easy ways for customers to donate.

Customers can select an amount to donate to the appeal via the ATM, of which 100% will go directly to the DEC appeal. In addition, adverts on the screen will also promote a textcode option, where customers can donate to the appeal using their mobile by texting ‘LIFE’ to 70000.

We hope that, alongside the national press, radio and TV campaigns currently live, these two simple, yet instant fundraising channels will help to drive support to this Appeal and allow customers to donate in as easy a way as possible.

 “Being able to access this network so quickly has helped to massively expand the reach of our Indonesia Tsunami appeal, ensuring that we can raise vital funds, while, increasing awareness of the work that we are doing to help people affected by the disaster.

 “Donations made through the Tesco Bank ATM network will be used to provide vital food, clean water, first aid and shelter for survivors in the area. Through this, DEC member charities and local partners can save lives, and help these devastated communities to rebuild.”

We are proud to be able to utilise our ATM network to support the DEC and this vital cause and thank our customers for their generosity in supporting this appeal.
